Artist's Biography
Biography of Sandy troudt
The beauty of the northern landscape inspires the majority of Sandy Troudt's work. The Peace Country’s surrounding farmland, steeped in local history, and neighbouring wilderness areas, including the Peace River and Williston Lake, have an endless ability to move her. She also draws much inspiration from the peaceful retreat of her gardens and finds she thinks even more about the natural world when painting.
Sandy's work is noted for contrast, the use of strong colours and a balance between detail and impression. She enjoys painting a wide variety of subjects and loves the challenges of using a variety of media including oils, acrylics, watercolours, encaustics, mixed media, pastels, and printmaking processes. The symbolism of abstract painting also delights her imagination.
For as long as she can remember, art has been an essential part of Sandy's life. She studied art in college, wove art instruction into all areas of the curriculum with elementary school students, facilitated art workshops for teachers and taught art courses for pre-service and practicing teachers through Simon Fraser University. These activities engaged her continuing passion for creativity throughout her 32 years as an educator.
Sandy co-chaired the 2001 BC Festival of the Arts in Fort St. John, and during the last several years has enjoyed the personal learning experiences that resulted from taking art courses at Northern Lights College. Workshops with renowned artists, Charles Reid, Mareth Warren, Dianne Bersea, Teressa Bernard, Elizabeth Harris-Nichols, Graham Flatt, Michele Zarb, Grant Fuller and Carrie Klukas have been motivational and endlessly inspiring.
Sandy's work received a Chosen Piece Award and an Honourable Mention at the Peace Liard Regional Juried Art Exhibit of 2009. Currently, her work can be viewed at the Peace Gallery North and the Dawson Creek Art Gallery.
“Art does not reproduce the visible, it recreates it.”-Cezanne
